Amazing “two-faced” cat featured on Today Show

No, it isn’t a Photoshop trick, computer-generated effect, or tribute to Batman’s enemy Harvey Dent on a Dark Knight fanpage; meet Venus, a mixed-breed cat whose fur pattern gives the appearance of having almost two faces. The feline also sports two different-colored eyes — one green and one blue.

Named Venus, after the Greek goddess of love, the cat has been referred to as a “chimera,” which was a creature in Greek mythology that was a goat-lion-serpent hybrid.

According to a piece by Katia Andreassi for National Geographic News, “a feline chimera is a cat whose cells contain two types of DNA, caused when two embryos fuse together.” The piece also states that in order to determine if the cat really is a chimera, a DNA test from each side of the feline’s body would be required.
