What’s luckier than a four-leaf clover? A three-legged cat named Shamrock! She’s living in a forever home now, and she deserves some luck after the journey she went through. Shamrock was found on the side of a road by a good Samaritan who brought her into the ASPCA Animal Hospital in Manhattan. She had life-threatening injuries and had bones in her stomach, which happens when cats scavenge for food in dumpsters.

The veterinary surgeons were able to remove the bones from her stomach, but they weren’t able to save her badly injured leg. Still, she was very lucky to survive, so the staff named her Shamrock. That’s when one animal care technician named Mercy Alvarado fell in love with her. After weeks of care, Shamrock was able to be adopted and went home with Alvarado.

Now Shamrock shares a home with two cat siblings, Luna and Ginger, as well as a dog named Stella. Shamrock has no trouble getting around, opening doors, and climbing cat posts just like the four-legged felines in her family. Alvarado hopes that Shamrock’s story will show others that cats that have lost a limb are just as capable and deserving of a good home as any other cat.
