Max The Roomba Cat Passed Away At Age 15

Even if you don’t know Max the Roomba Cat by name, you’ve probably seen one of his viral videos or a GIF of him riding his robot vacuum around in a little shark costume. His first viral video, “Cat In A Shark Costume Chases A Duck While Riding A Roomba,” currently has almost 10 million views on YouTube. After years of providing the internet with funny, adorable videos, Max passed away from cancer on March 2, 2017 just short of his 16th birthday.

Max’s love of the Roomba started in 2008 when his owner brought the device home. Max stared at the vacuum for a bit before perching on top of it, and the rest is history. From that moment on, any time the Roomba was out, Max wanted to take a ride on it.

The Roomba Cat was often joined in videos by a host of other cute animals, including his Pit Bull brother, Sharky, as well as a new addition to the family, a human “shark baby”. Sharky had some viral success, as well, after he showed his “motherly” instincts by taking care of his baby animal buddies. Sharky passed away in 2014, and his owner believes that he and Max are now together in heaven. The internet will surely miss new content from Max the Roomba Cat, but we’re grateful for all the years of videos that made us smile.
