Eric Goebelbecker

Profession: Trainer

After adopting a puppy that was a "bit of a handfu,l" Eric discovered modern dog training via classes, at St. Hubert's Dog Training School (www.sthuberts.org) what can be done with dog-friendly techniques. He decided then that he wanted to change careers from computer programming to dog training.

Since then he apprenticed at St. Hubert's, became a Certified Pet Dog Trainer, and completed several advanced courses on dog training. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Behavior Consultants (www.iaabc.org) and is a regular blogger at Dr. Ian Dunbar's Dog Star Daily (www.dogstardaily.com) website.

Eric runs Dog Spelled Forward dog training (www.dogspelledforward.com) in Maywood, NJ. He lives with Dagmar, his very patient wife, and Christian, his son. Caffeine, the bit of a handful puppy turned still-a-bit-of-a-handful dog, shares her home with Gage and Buddha, two other rescues. (Caffeine is pictured jumping through the tire.) expert questions answered

  • Bringing home your dog and Dog Behavior

We're bringing home a new Lab mix this week. She's already met our current dog, a Shepherd mix, and they get along great. Is there anything we can do to make sure the dogs share toys and reduce the chance of potential squabbles?

  • Dog Barking

My dog barks incessantly, but only in the car. Occasionally I take her to the vet, which she doesn't like, but the vast majority of the time we're headed to the dog park, which she loves. Why is this and what can I do?
