Two-faced ‘Janus cat’ born in Florida

The cat has two faces: a kitten with twin faces was born in Port Charlotte, Fla., this week. The owners have named the feline Harvey Dent, after a character from the Batman comic-book series.

“Janus cats,” named after the two-faced god in Roman mythology, are rare, typically suffer from a myriad of health problems, and aren’t expected to live very long. There have been exceptions, and according to Guinness World Records, the oldest two-faced cat lived until the age of 12. Harvey Dent the kitten was born with four eyes, two noses, and two mouths. Its mother, Nene, is a perfectly normal black cat.

In the Batman comic book, Harvey Dent was once a prominent district attorney until half his face was doused with acid, disfiguring him. The character was portrayed by Aaron Eckhart in the box-office smash The Dark Knight.

A story about Harvey was featured on WWSB ABC-7 news.
