Meet Anakin, a two-legged cat

At CatTime.com, we come across several stories about how felines live — and thrive — with various handicaps. Today, we present Anakin, a cat who was born without a pelvis or back legs.

According to the Anakin the Two Legged Miracle Cat Facebook page, the deformed cat was hanging around with feral cats in the woods near an office building in Pensacola, Fla. Carrie Hawks, a professional artist, caught the cat on June 1, and took it to a veterinarian.

The doctor was amazed that the cat was able to survive on his own, and estimated his age between 6 and 8 months.

X-rays and other tests revealed no serious health issues, and all his internal organs are normal.

Named Anakin, after the character Anakin Skywalker who became Darth Vader after losing a lightsaber duel — and some limbs — to Obi-wan in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the cat is incredibly mobile for a four-legged animal who’s reduced to a biped:

There are no immediate plans for Ani to get fitted with a wheeled cart, as the cat doesn’t drag his rump on the floor when he moves.

Ani has some medical problems — specifically, some constipation issues and complications from a prolapsed rectum, a condition where the walls of the rectum protrude outside the body.

Donations are accepted for Ani’s ongoing medical bills; check out his FAQ page for more information.
