Charles and Camilla Adopt a Shelter Pup

All hail the king and queen (to be)!

Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, adopted a puppy. Though pedigreed themselves, the royal couple made an absolutely noble decision when they opted to go for a shelter dog. Now that’s leadership.

According to CNN, Camilla contacted the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and asked to be notified about any Jack Russell Terriers that came in. When a 12-week-old arrived on the doorstep, staff emailed photos to the Duchess. Beth, as the pup is now known, will share digs with the couple’s two other dogs, Tosca and Rosie.

Brava, Camilla. Way to show that purebred dogs are available at shelters. Way to show that young puppies are available at shelters. Way to show that the exact animal you’re looking for is probably available at a shelter — or just a very short wait away.

Didn’t catch William’s marriage to Kate Middleton. I’ve never been a royal-watcher. Couldn’t muster much respect for — or interest in — any of them, but I’m newly attentive now. What a difference an adoption makes.
