An all-aluminum, deep scoop with an ergonomically designed handle makes the DuraScoop Jumbo the best option for cat owners who want to get the job done fast.

We love this litter scoop because it’s sizeable, but not heavy. A lot of cat scoopers are shallow, but DuraScoop does not skimp on the materials. One scoop is all it takes to get to the bottom of the litter box. The scoop’s sides are raised, so you won’t have any trouble with unwanted mess falling out. Despite being large, the all-aluminum design and colorful rubber handle make it comfortable to hold and easy on the eyes.
The biggest problem we found with the DuraScoop Jumbo Metal Scoop is that because it’s large, it doesn’t work as well for small litter boxes. It works fine with standard-sized boxes and especially well with large boxes, but if you have a smaller box, it might become fiddly.
Best Extra Large
The iPrimio Monster Scoop is named that for a reason. With a seventeen-inch handle and a large, curved metal scoop, this is ideal for those who have multiple cats.
Find on Amazon
We love that this scoop is both deep and long, making it ideal for big boxes. It also works great for pet parents who might have limited mobility due to medical conditions. Even if you don’t need a scoop with a long handle, the iPrimio Monster Scoop is comfortable and easy to use. The length allows for longer scoops so cleaning the litter box won’t take as long. It also comes with a matching wall holder that keeps the scoop handy but doesn’t allow it to touch the wall. Cute and functional.
Obviously, this is an extra-large scoop. Because of the smart design, it’s easy to use even with smaller litter boxes. However, measuring at over seventeen inches, it isn’t subtle. If you have a small apartment, you might have trouble figuring out where it should be stored. It fits perfectly hanging on the inside of our bathroom cabinet and we suggest trying that first.
The Vivaglory Cat Litter Scoop perfectly balances durability and ease of use. It also has a thin edge, so it’s ideal for scraping off any bits that are stuck on.

We love how versatile the Vivaglory cat litter scoop is. Small and easy to hold, this fantastic scoop has an ergonomic molded rubber handle, a deep shovel to remove clumps from the bottom of the tray and 0.2-inch slots to help sift out the clean litter so that you only remove the messy bits. We even found that children can use this scoop with ease, making it perfect for the whole family to enjoy.
Half of the handle is made from metal, whereas the end of the handle is made from pure rubber, which can make it feel as though the handle has broken in two. We can assure you this design is deliberate, but it can feel a little odd to use because of the two materials next to one another.
The BasicForm Cat Litter Scoop is a stainless-steel scoop with a wide wire design to help sift clean litter while removing larger clumps. It is easy to use and quick to clean.
Find on Amazon
The BasicForm scoop offers a design that effectively removes dirty litter from the tray while retaining the clean litter. The stainless-steel wire is coated, which allows it to be cleaned with water without rusting. The coating also prevents anything from sticking to it, which makes it easy to wipe clean. It also has wide openings, which is perfect for thicker litters. It comes in multiple colors and looks fabulous hanging above the litter box.
The entire BasicForm scoop is made of metal wire, including the handle. A lack of rubber grip or ergonomic handle might make it difficult to hold, especially if you have arthritis or other mobility issues affecting your hands.
Best Hygienic Scoop
The LitterGenie cat litter scoop offers so much more than an average cat litter scoop. It acts as a waste disposal system that eliminates pesky litterbox mess as well as unpleasant smells.

The LitterGenie is a waste pail that uses antimicrobials to inhibit odors and keep them inside the pail. Simply use the attached scoop to dump any waste into the pail and your house will smell fresh again. We love that this little pail is compact but powerful. It can hold up to fourteen days of cat litter, which means fewer trips to the trashcan and more time with your fur baby. It comes with a scoop and scoop holster attached to the side, so your entire setup is convenient.
The LitterGenie uses special bags that help to eliminate odors. Unfortunately, the bags are sold separately and can be a little pricey, but we think it’s worth it to have an odorless home.
What Really Matters
Ease of Use
Removing waste from a cat litter tray is always a slightly unpleasant task, which is why we think it should be done as quickly and efficiently as possible. We recommend you find a scoop that is easy to use so that you can finish the task quickly. It’s important for scoops to have ergonomic handles that won’t slip out of your hand and are easy to grip. Additionally, it’s important that the edge of the scoop is thin. A thin edge will allow you to scoop anything that’s stuck on the side of the tray. Before you commit to a scoop, try to get a feel for it. Hold it in your hand and check for a balanced weight and a non-slip grip. If it’s hard to use, cleaning the litter box will turn into the worst chore in the house.
It is vital that your cat litter scoop is durable and long-lasting. There is nothing worse than being midway through a litter clear-out only for your flimsy scoop to snap. You may have noticed that all of the scoops on our list are metal. Metal scoops are generally more durable and are competitively priced compared to their plastic counterparts. Durability is especially important if you have kids, because children can be a little heavy-handed when cleaning out the tray. Therefore, you need a scoop that can hold up to their enthusiasm. Finally, durable scoops won’t need replacement in a hurry, so will last you several years if taken care of properly.
We’re dealing with animal waste here. It’s important that you ensure whatever scoop you’re using doesn’t endanger you or your family’s health. Plastic scoops are porous and can hold onto germs. You might not think that is important because it’s only ever used to clean out the litterbox, but those germs can transfer onto anything the scoop comes into contact with. A metal scoop is easy to disinfect between litter cleanings and it will hold up much better to daily sanitization. Look for an antimicrobial coating for maximum hygiene. It’s also never a bad idea to choose a scoop with a handle that curves away from the scoop, so you don’t accidentally scoop something onto yourself.
Can I use a cat litter scoop if I am pregnant?
Pregnant women are often advised not to scoop waste from the cat litter or change the litter tray. Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease that can sometimes be found in cat waste. If a pregnant woman contracts toxoplasmosis, serious harm can come to the unborn baby. Though not all litter trays will be host to this disease, many are, and so it is always best for pregnant women to give the poop scooping jobs to someone else for the duration of her pregnancy.
How often should I use a cat litter scoop?
It is best to use a cat litter scoop every day to remove visible clumps. You should then change the entire tray of litter for fresh litter once or twice a week. Your cat will be much happier when doing his or her business in clean litter. A very dirty, unchanged litter box will be unappealing to your cat, who may then reject the litter altogether.
How do I clean a cat litter scoop?
Cleaning a cat litter scoop is vital to maintain good hygiene within the home. You should rinse your cat litter scoop in hot, soapy water after every use. You should never put the cat litter scoop into the dishwasher, as it is not advisable to put the waste on the scoop anywhere near your dishes in case of contamination. Make sure you wear rubber gloves if you’re giving your scoop a good scrub. Throw away any cloths used to remove waste from the scoop.
How long should a cat litter scoop last?
A metal, high-quality cat litter scoop can last years. Plastic or rubber scoops may break within a few months, so it is better to pay a little extra for a scoop you can rely on. It is also important that you properly care for your scoop. If you have a metal scoop without protective coating, it might rust if it comes into contact with water, so make sure your metal scoop is properly protected to ensure longevity.
