If you’ve ever lived with a cat, you already know they treat every unexpected change like a potential security threat. A new chair, a cardboard box, or even a misplaced shoe can trigger a full inspection. So imagine their confusion when what looked like another cat suddenly appeared in the middle of the house. A recent video shared by Instagram user @cleothecitykitty captured that exact moment as two cats came face-to-face with a lifelike fake feline and didn’t quite know what to do next.
Cats feel too stunned to move after discovering a fake cat at home
The video begins with the two cats, Cleo and Clemmie, noticing what appears to be another cat sitting inside their home. The surprise “guest” is actually a lifelike cat doll designed to resemble a Persian cat, which also happens to be the same breed as Cleo and Clemmie. That detail seems to make the prank even more convincing.
As soon as they spot the fake feline, both cats immediately freeze in place. They stay at a distance and carefully observe the figure, seemingly trying to decide whether it is safe to approach. Their cautious body language quickly became one of the funniest parts of the clip.
Cleo appears to recover first from the initial shock. Slowly and carefully, she takes a few steps toward the fake cat, lowering her head to sniff it and investigate further. Her curiosity eventually seems to outweigh her fear, though she still remains cautious throughout the interaction.
Clemmie, on the other hand, has a very different reaction. The younger cat stays frozen with wide eyes fixed on the fake feline. His body curls slightly backward in fear while his fur appears puffed up, making it obvious that he is deeply unsettled by the unexpected sight.
The owner later admitted they were surprised by how intense the reaction was. In the caption, they wrote, “Omg I was NOT expecting this kind of reaction oh sweet Clemmie… dw I put it in the closet out of his sight!”
People in the comments section were especially entertained by Clemmie’s response. One viewer wrote, “Those dilated pupils,” while another joked, “What have you brought into our home?!!! – Clemmie.” Others noticed how differently the two cats handled the situation. “Cleo’s like I am gonna check this out,” one person commented. Another added, “Cleo the big sister checking it out. Clemmie is still a baby.”
