Shelter Reunites Missing Cat With Family

A shelter in California helped reunite a missing cat with her family, reports Fox affiliate KTXL News. Elsa went missing when her family was moving from California to Tennessee. She arrived at the Elk Grove Animal Shelter last month. Soon after, the feline was reunited with her owners.

The person who brought the cat to the shelter shared a photo of the feline on social media. The organization also found a microchip attached to the pet. Subsequently, Elsa’s owner saw the post and reached out to the shelter.

She sent out an email to the shelter, explaining how the cat disappeared while her family was moving to Tennessee. “We had family checking our old neighborhood for a month after we left. She never showed up,” she said.

Sarah Humlie, manager of the shelter, said the staff were delighted to see the heartwarming reunion. “We knew we had to do everything we could to help Elsa get back to her family.”

The shelter managed to transport the cat to Tennessee with the help of a volunteer earlier this month. Later, the organization put up a Facebook post, describing the incident as “a microchip miracle.”

“Holly and her family were all packed up to move from California to Tennessee when their beloved cat Elsa disappeared,” the post reads in part. They added that the family had postponed their trip to Tennessee by a few days to look for the cat. However, they decided to move on when they couldn’t find Elsa.

The organization said the cat’s owner had earlier requested to secure a foster for the pet for a month until she could come to California. However, a staff member’s family volunteered to take the cat with them on their flight to Alabama. Elsa and her family were ultimately reunited at the Huntsville airport.

The shelter also highlighted the importance of microchipping pets. “We were so happy to be part of Elsa’s long journey and can’t express enough how much microchips are so important!”
