Cats are generally known for their cautious relationship with water. Unlike dogs, who tend to enjoy splashing around, felines usually steer clear of water due to their evolutionary history and unique grooming habits. However, some cats defy this stereotype and embrace water with surprising enthusiasm. Peach, an orange cat from the United Kingdom, is one such exception, with her love of water and her collection of bath-time “boats” that evolve as she grows.
Video of cat’s boat evolution goes viral
Peach’s fascination with bath time began at just three months old. It was around this time that she started sitting by the side of the bathtub as her owner, Holly Fairbrass, noticed her curiosity. To enhance Peach’s bath time, Holly began crafting different DIY boats for her to lounge on in the water.
Over time, these boats have evolved, with Fairbrass taking inspiration from comments and suggestions left by viewers on social media. In her words, “We’ve listened to most of the suggestions in the comments and tried to create the perfect boat.” Through trial and error, she eventually discovered Peach’s favorite boat — a mixing bowl that perfectly suits the cat’s size and comfort. In the video, Peach is seen relaxing in her makeshift boats during bath time. Meanwhile, her brother Pablo watches from the sidelines, seemingly uninterested in the water.
What makes Peach’s behavior particularly extraordinary is that most cats tend to avoid water due to their evolutionary instincts. Their fur is designed to keep them warm and dry, so when it gets wet, it becomes heavy and uncomfortable. This can make it harder for them to move, regulate their body temperature, and maintain their usual level of comfort. However, breeds like the Bengal, Turkish Van, and Maine Coon are known for their affinity for water. As such, Peach’s unusual behavior is more in line with these water-loving breeds, despite not being one herself.
The unique situation quickly caught the attention of Instagram users, who turned Peach into a viral sensation. As of now, the video has garnered over 16.2 million views and 1.5 million likes. Commenters have expressed their amusement at Peach’s behavior. One person jokingly suggested that Peach needs a “pirate ship,” while others marveled at her ability to enjoy water so peacefully.
