However, some animals, like Garbanzo — or “Bonzo,” as she’s affectionately called — find their way into the right hands after enduring difficult experiences. A recent adoption announcement video captures the heartwarming moment when the cat’s journey to her forever home takes a turn for the better.
‘Survivor’ Cat finds a second owner after a traumatizing first adoption experience
Instagram user @rachaelraerobertson shared a video documenting the emotional journey of Bonzo, a cat who overcame a traumatic past. Bonzo was initially fostered by Rachael when she was just three days old. Over time, Bonzo grew into a strong, independent cat and was eventually adopted. However, that adoption did not go as planned. The cat’s first owner abandoned her on the streets, even though they had a contract stating that the fosterer would take the cat back if anything went wrong.
Rachael later explained how Bonzo’s original owner blocked her on all communication platforms after abandoning the cat. The situation was heartbreaking, but Rachael was there for Bonzo every step of the way. She even kept the cat’s microchip under her name. By the time Bonzo was returned, she had gained over 25 pounds and developed a deep fear of her surroundings. She was terrified of everything, even wetting herself in moments of extreme stress. The heartbreaking image of Bonzo before she was adopted — once an innocent kitten — starkly contrasts with the emotional and physical state she was in when she was returned.
Despite the rough start, Bonzo found her forever home with a loving family. The latest update video captures Bonzo’s emotional progress and healing. It’s set to a voiceover from the Netflix series “Never Have I Ever,” featuring the line, “I’m so proud of you. You survived baby. You’re a survivor.” Moreover, Rachael shared a heartfelt caption alongside the video. She wrote, “She’s just starting the beginning of her happily ever after with a momma who loves her the way I always hoped.”
