Video: Blind Cat Teaches Herself To Play Fetch

Lettie, a blind cat also known as Lettuce, just gave the internet a feel-good video, and she did it with her tiny toy and a whole lot of confidence. In a video by Instagram user @iamgooseontheloose, the cat’s owner reveals a surprise discovery in the on-screen caption: “lettuce is blind and i found out today that she taught herself how to play fetch.” And what follows will melt your heart.

Blind cat masters fetch in viral video

In the video, the blind cat shuffles around the room until she finds her ball. Her mom cheers her on with a warm “good job!” and then leans in close to check in, asking if Lettie wants her to throw it. Then, Lettie’s mom tosses the ball across the hallway, prompting the cat to take off after it. She moves with the kind of focus that makes you forget she can’t see.

The cat pauses and searches, finds it again, bats it forward, and keeps going until she gets it back under control. Then, Lettie brings the ball back to her mom, earns another “good job, lettie,” and gets a happy body rub like she just won a gold medal. And maybe this is worth more to her mom than any medal.

The caption explains how it all started: “lettie carried her ball into the office and dropped it in front of me. we did this over and over and this might be one of the cutest videos i’ve ever taken.”

Viewers couldn’t get over Lettie’s talent. One comment praised the cat and her owner, writing, “If it wasn’t for the fact I can see she doesn’t have eyes I would swear she wasn’t blind. You’re raising such a smart, confident young lady.” Another viewer pointed out her adorable sounds, noting, “Omg those little trilling chirrupy noises are the cutest.”

The video shows how the blind cat turned following the ball into her little game, and it’s hard not to root for her.
