Purina: Has the Cat Food Brand Issued a Recall in 2024?

Several weeks ago, the internet was buzzing with chatter that Purina’s pet foods aren’t safe for consumption. The Missouri-based company came under fire on social media as multiple social media accounts “exposed” their pet foods for sickening and killing dozens of cats.

While these allegations aren’t as rife now as they were when the year began, you may be wondering whether there’s any of Purina’s cat food under recall in 2024. Here’s what you need to know.

Has Purina recalled its cat food in 2024?

Fortunately, Purina hasn’t issued a voluntary recall on any of its cat food products in 2024. Additionally, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) so far hasn’t mandated Purina to issue a recall. There are no official 2024 reports confirming that any of Purina’s cat food has sickened or caused death.

Purina dispelled rumors of their pet foods being unfit for consumption as purported on social media. Moreover, they reassured pet owners of the safety of their products. In a statement shared by NBC News, the company wrote: “Pet parents continue to be understandably scared by an online rumor that there is an issue with Purina pet foods. This rumor is false, and we are saddened to see the confusion and fear that it has caused. ”

The company further stated: “There are no health or safety issues with our products, and they can continue to be fed with confidence.”

When was the last Purina cat food recall?

Purina’s last cat food recall happened in 2021. The affected product was the Purina Pro Plan Complete Essentials Tuna Entrée in Sauce Wet Cat Food. Purina took the cautionary measure to recall this specific product, citing the presence of a choking hazard. It was established that the product contained pieces of black plastic. Thankfully, there were no confirmed reports of cats injured or sickened by these foreign objects.
