Chris Pratt Voices Iconic Cat in ‘The Garfield Movie’

The first trailer for ”The Garfield Movie” is out, and it features Chris Pratt voicing the titular character. Garfield is, of course, beloved for being a lazy cat who loves lasagnas and hates Mondays with a passion. We empathize!

That said, this film focuses on the cat’s epic outdoor adventure with his canine friend Odie as the duo teams up with Garfield’s long-lost father for an unforgettable adventure.

Trailer released for ‘The Garfield Movie’

The trailer for ”The Garfield Movie” begins with a sweet flashback showing how Garfield met his owner, Jon Arbuckle. The tabby cat watches a lonely Arbuckle having a pizza at a restaurant. The man’s heart melts as he feeds the kitten, albeit that is before Garfield ends up stealing Jon’s entire pizza.

The goofy feline has an insatiable appetite, with a special love for layered pasta. In a laugh-inducing scene, Garfield says, ”I apologize in advance. The eating you’re about to see will not be pretty. And if you have young children, this will be a good time for them to leave the room.”

Towards the end, we see Garfield’s long-lost father, Vic, whom he unexpectedly encounters. The trailer then shows Vic, Garfield, and Odie collaborating in various hijinks.

The official synopsis of the film reads, ”Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt), the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure!” It’s at this point we learn we’re in for an exciting casting twist. Because, in 2024, audiences will hear Samuel L. Jackson voice “scruffy street cat Vic.” Of course, Vic is Garfield’s father who had been, up until this point, missing in action. Emphatically, Sony Pictures promises that our favorite orange feline and his sweet, although not-so-bright, canine companion will be “forced from their perfectly pampered life.” The pair will join Jackson’s character in what promises to be “a hilarious, high-stakes heist.”

Apart from Chris Pratt and Samuel L. Jackson, “The Garfield Movie” voice cast also features Nicholas Hoult, Harvey Guillén, Hannah Waddingham, and Ving Rhames, among others.

A quick look at Garfield’s history

Garfield is the protagonist of the iconic comic strip of the same name. Born on June 19, 1978, in Mamma Leoni’s Italian Restaurant, Garfield was sold to a pet store by the restaurant’s owner. The shopkeeper claimed the cat’s massive appetite necessitated the move. A couple of months later, a man named Jon Arbuckle adopted the tabby Persian cat from the pet shop.

”Garfield” chronicles the titular protagonist’s escapades. However, the storyline primarily focuses on the interactions between Garfield, Jon, and Odie. Over the years, the comic strip has become a pop culture phenomenon, with many films, books, TV shows, and merchandise lines being made based on the iconic orange feline.
