After many negotiations, Keir Starmer and his family have decided to welcome a kitten to Downing Street instead of a German Shepherd. The Starmers’ new addition is a Siberian. The cat breed is known for their thick coat, which gives them the appearance of a little lion. The feline will be joining the Downing Street cat, Larry, and the prime minister’s other kitty, Jojo, who is a rescue.
Starmer chooses Siberian kitten over German Shepherd for Downing Street
The Starmers have welcomed an adorable new addition to their family, bringing a kitten to Downing Street on Sept. 2. According to BBC, Keir Starmer negotiated his way into purchasing a tiny kitty instead of a dog. His children had previously requested that a German Shepherd be added to their family upon their move to 10 Downing Street.
However, the Siberian will have to share their fame with Larry the cat, the Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office. The Downing Street cat has already started taking a dig at the new addition, jokingly noting on X (formerly Twitter) that the little one will be reporting to him.
The infamous feline has over 903,000 followers on the social media platform and often comments on news and political matters. Larry the cat also poked fun at his new companion’s cuteness, reposting a photo of himself and stating that he was definitely “cuter.”
However, Keir Starmer said that they are struggling with one thing. Installing a cat flap for their three feline friends, including their rescue, Jojo, is proving difficult. There is only one door in and out of Number 10, which is bomb-proof. Thus, installing a cat flap isn’t an easy task.
Nevertheless, his daughter clarified that the problem remains the same regardless of the family’s number of felines. Therefore, they decided to provide a forever home to the Siberian kitten.
