Video: Cat Won’t Drink From Anywhere Except Owner’s Glass

When it comes to water, many felines seem to have their own set of unspoken rules — and some simply refuse to drink it the “normal” way. One cat owner has gone viral after sharing a video of her kitten who won’t drink from her own water bowl, opting instead to hydrate straight from her human’s glass.

Cat loves to drink out of her human’s glass in hilarious video

The short clip posted to the Instagram account @lilpeacat captures 9-week-old Pea helping herself to her owner’s drinking glass like it’s her personal hydration station. As Pea leans over and casually laps from the glass, on-screen text from her owner reads, “I literally refresh her water twice a day every day but no, she must drink mine.” In the video’s caption, the owner affectionately refers to her kitten as a “hydrated queen.” As if she knows exactly what she’s doing, Pea’s face at the end of the video looks almost smug, a detail that several viewers were quick to notice and comment on.

The same video was also posted to TikTok under the account @mollylouisefrost, where it racked up 3.5 million views. Over on Instagram, it pulled in an even bigger audience, reaching 3.7 million views and more than 401,000 likes. The comments were full of people both amused and sympathetic. “The face at the end, ‘yes, and?’” one person wrote. Another joked, “Yours??? No it’s her water now.” Plenty of viewers also chimed in with stories of their own cats refusing to drink from anything but their humans’ cups. “My cat did this without my knowledge until one time I woke up to a strange sound only to discover that we shared the glass on my nightstand,” one commenter shared.

On average, a healthy cat should drink about 3.5 to 4.5 ounces of water per five pounds of body weight each day. However, cats are notoriously fussy about their water source. Some prefer running water, others want it cold, and some, like Pea, clearly believe their human’s glass is the superior option. Maybe it’s the taste, maybe it’s the novelty, or maybe — as anyone who’s lived with a cat might suspect — it’s just because she can.
