Video: Cat Says Yes to Breakfast with This Gesture

Some cats meow for breakfast. Some tap their bowl. But Jack Spicer, the black-and-white cat from Denver, has mastered a far more dramatic way of saying yes when asked if he’s ready to eat, and the internet can’t get enough of it. The video by @spicerjackjack begins with Jack perched proudly on the counter, wearing his signature yellow bandana. He looks up at his owner with big, expectant eyes as the text overlay asks: “Do you want breakfast?”

Cat communicates with owner when it’s time for breakfast

Jack immediately dips his head, then begins rubbing his face against the counter in an exaggerated swoop, a gesture that looks exactly like a cat nodding yes. His tail twitches with excitement as he lowers his chin, sliding it across the surface in a slow, deliberate motion. His owner repeats the question off-camera: “Is it breakfast time?”

Jack reacts even more enthusiastically this time, rolling onto his side while maintaining eye contact. He drags his cheek along the counter again, pushing his whole face forward in a clear “yes.” Jack’s owner captioned the video: “Meowdy purrtners. Here is a little video of Jack Spicer waiting for breakfast in Denver.” The post notes that these clips are part of a “best of” series while Jack is on sick leave.

Viewers couldn’t resist commenting on the cat’s expressive communication style. One user wrote, “Oh, he is the cutest!!!!!” Another added, “He’s tooooo much cute. Omg he’s probably worked all night.” Someone else summed up the entire video perfectly: “This cat has a lot of character.”

Jack is the star of the Instagram account @spicerjackjack, where he’s built a devoted fanbase of 1 million followers across more than 3,800 posts. His bio reads: “Jack Spicer is a kitty cat named after the poet of the same name. Spicer lives on a farm in Wisconsin.”
