A critically underweight black cat named Koda is finally getting a second chance after a rescuer found him barely able to stand because of severe starvation. His heartbreaking condition shocked everyone who met him, but his first veterinary visit also brought the hopeful news that he may still have a fighting chance.
Human rescues ‘severely emaciated and weak’ cat
Verified animal rescue organization Wild Whiskers shared the cat rescue video story on Instagram. The rescue began after someone named Jordan reported that a cat in terrible condition appeared to have an injured leg, but no one had stepped in to help him. The rescuer rushed to the location and instead discovered something far worse.
Koda wasn’t struggling because of a broken limb. Severe emaciation and weakness left him barely able to stand or walk. The tiny cat weighed just 4 pounds, leaving the rescuer devastated by how long he had apparently fought to survive on his own.
The cat rescue video organization said it may never learn what really happened to Koda. They wondered whether someone had intentionally starved him, whether his family had abandoned him, or whether he had escaped from somewhere before ending up at a stranger’s doorstep. After the rescue, Koda was immediately taken to PGA Animal Clinic, where staff made room to examine him without delay.
The rescue thanked the veterinary team for moving slowly with the frightened cat, treating him with compassion, and helping create a medical plan that gives him the best chance of recovery. Doctors found multiple bruises and small wounds scattered across his body, including injuries that appeared to be bite wounds along one side.
The rescue organization says Koda has already shown incredible determination by surviving long enough for someone to find him. The organization ended the update with a promise to the tiny survivor: “Welcome to your new life, sweet Koda. You never have to fight alone again.”
