‘Depressed’ Cat Loses Second Fish & Owners Get Him a Fish Tank

A heartwarming TikTok video from user @almondandcashie shows a cat named Cashie’s owners introducing new fish friends for him after he took a hard loss last year. The on-screen caption explains, “In January 2025, Cashie lost his second betta fish & was very depressed.” But don’t worry — this story has a happy ending.

The video opens on the cat looking down and sad before the story explains how the owners got him a bigger fish tank, setting Cashie up for a new adventure with new friends. In the on-screen text, the owner explains, “This is a story of how we grew a big tank of fish for Cashie to enjoy,” showing the cat standing tall beside a new tank setup, observing every movement.

First, they added dwarf frogs. Then they brought in three colorful guppies — and judging by the cat’s reaction, as the text says, “Cashie was so excited.” From there, it turned into a habit. The video says, “Everyday he would check on his friends,” and you can see Cashie returning again and again, perched by the glass, watching inside the tank like it’is his favorite TV channel.

Something as exciting as a fish tank breaks up the day, especially for indoor cats, and it can keep them curious and engaged. Cashie doesn’t need to “play” with the fish to enjoy them — just watching seems to do the trick.

The tank’s population didn’t stay at three for long. As such, the video notes, “In April, we had a pregnant guppy,” while soon after, “The babies arrived,” and by January 2026, the guppies “have multiplied,” turning the setup into a beautiful little community.

And so, the ending feels like a win for Cashie. The final message says he now has “beautiful friends to watch all day,” and the caption shows how much the owners love their cat as they explain their intent behind the whole project: “We will always do whatever it takes to ensure our baby is happy.”
