Patricia, a 3-year-old Dilute Calico rescue cat, is waiting for a second chance after a painful abandonment. Southampton Animal Shelter shared her story on Instagram after she and three other cats were found alone in a home.
Their owners had moved away and left them behind. Now Patricia sits safely at the Hampton Bays, New York shelter, where staff says she still reaches for love after everything she lost so suddenly.

The reel says Patricia and her three housemates were abandoned after their owners moved. The landlord noticed four cats waiting inside and called for help. The shelter wrote that it cannot understand how people continue leaving pets behind while moving. It added that this happens more often than many people think.
The reel shows Patricia, the calico cat, resting in a large enclosure with another cat nearby. One caption says, “Her owners moved away and didn’t take her with them.” Another says, “She never imagined the people she loved would abandon her.” It adds, “Pets are not disposable. And their love isn’t either.”
Patricia still seems gentle and ready for affection. The shelter said she enjoys time with other cats. It also said she loves when staff and volunteers visit her. One caption says, “She cherishes all the love she can get here after being disposed.”
