Frequently Asked Questions
Is catnip addictive?
While many cat owners worry about their cats becoming addicted to catnip after seeing their cats going crazy once exposed to it, there’s no need to worry as catnip is not addictive or habit-forming to your cat. It’s possible that your cat may grow bored or become immune to the effects of catnip if they are exposed to it too often. You can rest easy knowing that there is no evidence showing that catnip causes any harm to cats.
Does catnip work on all cats?
Many people assume all cats react the same way to catnip, but a cat’s response to catnip is as varied as their individual personalities. Interestingly, only between 50-75% of cats have any reaction to catnip at all. A cat’s response to catnip is biological, with this response likely being hereditary. If your cat doesn’t react to catnip, it may just be that they’re biologically wired not to have an interest in it. For cats who do love catnip, not all of them get the “zoomies” and get super playful, either. Some cats mellowed out, while others may like to roll around and rub their faces on everything. How your cat reacts to catnip is as special and unique as your feline.
