Denver’s Coors Field Cat Returns To Her Beloved Stadium As A Cancer-Free Kitty

Elizabeth Hernandez, of The Denver Post, wrote about an amusing text exchange she had involving Socks, the Coors Field Cat.

Recently, Socks, a feral cat who calls the entirety of Coors Field her home, had a bit of a health scare.

During a vet check-up, it was discovered she had a sizable tumor. But now, she’s been cleared as completely cancer-free!

Hernandez received a text last week that amazingly said, “GUESS WHO DOES NOT HAVE CANCER?!” But, the number wasn’t saved on her phone, and she recently wiped her phone free of texts — probably seeking phone storage space, as we all have to do on occasion.

Regardless, it’s quite a text to receive, and you certainly want to know what to celebrate. Hernandez did some momentary sleuthing, but a follow-up text shed light.

It was the Coors Field Cat who was cancer-free!

Who Is The Coors Field Cat?

Socks is the Coors Field Cat — a black and white calico, with her own Twitter. She’s a feral cat, and one of many who call the Colorado Rockies’ ball park home and delight fans on a regular basis.

Toward the end of November, a foster by the name of Jenni Leigh captured Socks for a vet check-up. Her goal was to have the cat properly spayed and vaccinated, before returning her.

Unfortunately, though, Socks’ check-up revealed she had a tumor, and further tests were needed to ensure it wasn’t cancerous.

Lucky for socks, it turns out it wasn’t.

Leigh shared the email she received from her vet with Hernandez.

“The most amazing news — the mass is not cancerous,” the email relays. “It is inflammatory, possibly from an infection… Bottom line is it is not cancer! I’m not sure how she got this lucky!!!”

With a bill of good health, Socks returned to the stadium for the weekend’s festivities happy, healthy, and quite lucky indeed. If the video in the tweet below is any indication, she was quite excited to return home.
