Video Shows What Happens When You Have a Clingy Cat

People often joke that dogs have owners while cats have staff, and for the most part, that feels accurate. Felines usually carry themselves like self-sufficient rulers who occasionally allow affection as a generous favor. However, sometimes, some felines prove that stereotype wildly incorrect by sticking to their humans like glue. One Instagram video has captured a clingy cat and how he insists on following his person everywhere they go.

Instagram video highlights what life looks like with a clingy cat

The clip was posted by Instagram user @maple.cat, who frequently shares moments of daily life with their cat, Maple. The video opens with a simple caption: “POV: You have a cat who loves to follow you around the house.”

From there, the footage shows Maple trailing behind his owner from room to room, determined not to be left alone for even a moment. Whether the person walks down a hallway, enters a bedroom, or sits down, Maple is right there — quiet, persistent, and always watching.

One of the most charming parts of the video is Maple’s habit of bringing toys to his human. The owner explains in the caption that the cat has recently started offering “gifts” more often.

The toys he delivers include his favorites — a plush baguette and a butterfly toy. Whenever his owner moves to a different room, Maple begins meowing loudly while carrying one of these toys in his mouth until he locates them.

But interestingly, it’s not about playing fetch or starting a game. When the owner throws the toy to engage him, Maple doesn’t chase it.

Instead, he stands still and looks at them, almost confused, as if surprised they misunderstood his intention. The owner jokes that Maple’s blank stare makes it clear he wasn’t trying to play. He just wanted to be near them and share something meaningful.

According to animal behavior specialists, clinginess in cats can come from a variety of reasons, ranging from personality to environment. Some felines form strong bonds and simply feel safest when close to their humans.

Others may become more attached if their routine has recently changed or if they crave reassurance. While not all cats express affection in the same way, following, gift-giving, and vocalizing are common signs that a feline feels connected and wants attention or closeness.
