Cats may not come with tool belts or blueprints, but that doesn’t stop some of them from poking their noses — and paws — into household mechanics. While most felines limit their curiosity to cardboard boxes or the occasional countertop, one particularly ambitious kitty has taken a keen interest in kitchen appliances. As such, the owner finally caught her cat’s long-running obsession with the family dishwasher in a viral video.
Cat gets caught opening a dishwasher by owner in viral video
The clip begins with the owner holding the orange feline and talking directly to the viewers about her cat’s dishwasher mischief. She shares that she had been trying to film this behavior for a long time and has finally succeeded. The viral video then cuts to footage of the determined cat at work.
The owner explains through a voiceover that her dishwasher has a locking mechanism, yet her furbaby has been managing to open it for the past four years. Despite repeated attempts to catch it on video, this is the first time she has clear evidence. The footage shows the cat pawing at the dishwasher door, trying multiple angles and methods for over a minute straight at one point. The owner adds that before anyone criticizes her for not stimulating her pet enough, she has already provided him with several puzzle feeders and activities. But according to her, “he’s just something else.” She even jokes that he might have been “a mechanic in his past life.”
After about seven minutes of trying, the cat finally manages to swing the dishwasher door open by pulling a lever in just the right way. The viral cat video then cuts to the owner showing the viewers the lock mechanism, explaining that the dishwasher was indeed secured. According to her, the feline manages to unlock it by pulling a specific lever.
If you’re dealing with an especially crafty cat, there are ways to help prevent these kinds of escapades. To cat-proof your kitchen, consider using childproof locks on appliances like dishwashers, refrigerators, and cabinets. You can also use double-sided tape or deterrent sprays in problem areas to discourage persistent tampering. Most importantly, keep dangerous household items and cleaning agents well out of reach to ensure your clever companion stays safe.
