Being told you are loved can be powerful, and it seems that power isn’t lost on our pets. While animals may not grasp language the way humans do, they often seem to understand when they are being spoken to with affection. A touching video features one such moment, where a cat seems to truly feel every loving word his owner says.
Cat soaks up owner’s love in adorable video
Cat dad Justin Jones recently posted a heart-melting video of a tender moment with his orange tabby, Jack. In the clip, Jack sits calmly in front of a TV screen while Justin showers him with affection. “Hey Jack, you’re so handsome. I just love you so much, sir,” Justin says gently. Jack listens closely, his gaze fixed on Justin, almost as if he’s fully taking in every word.
As the loving words continue, Jack’s eyes slowly begin to close and his posture softens. “You’re just my best friend cat in the whole wide world, Jack,” Justin continues. Jack then rolls onto his back, letting out a loud, peaceful purr, clearly savoring the moment. The video ends with Justin giving Jack a few soft chin rubs, sealing the bond they share.
Since being posted, the video has attracted more than 577K views and over 92K likes. Many viewers chimed in with comments, touched by Jack’s emotional response. One person wrote, “He soaked those words up into his soul,” echoing what many viewers felt while watching. Another said, “I loooove doing this with my cat! He starts purring more with each compliment till he drools.” Others pointed out how the tone of Justin’s voice might have been especially soothing for Jack which caused him to purr.
As for whether cats understand verbal praise, research suggests that while cats might not grasp the exact words, they are highly sensitive to tone and repetition. Cats can learn their names and associate certain words or phrases with actions, feelings, or outcomes. More importantly, they can sense emotional energy. A calm, loving tone often triggers a soothing response, just like Jack’s. So, while Jack may not know he’s “handsome,” he certainly knows he is cherished.
