You might not think a cat’s fur color would affect their chances of finding a home. However, rescue groups say it happens more often than many people realize. Black cats are frequently overlooked despite having personalities just as loving as any other pet. That’s the reality two sibling cats, Chloe and Penny, have faced as they continue waiting for a family to choose them.
Sibling cats face adoption challenges due to their black coats
A rescue organization is hoping to rewrite the future for two sibling cats after revealing the heartbreaking reason they continue to be overlooked by adopters. The video, shared on Instagram by @petrescuesolutions, features Chloe and Penny, a pair of black sisters who are still waiting for a family to choose them. It opens with a message that reflects what the rescue says it hears from some prospective adopters: “They’re just black cats…”
The clip then shifts the focus away from that assumption. Inside their carrier, Chloe and Penny can be seen peering curiously at the camera and quietly investigating their surroundings. Their playful expressions and gentle demeanor show two kittens eager for attention, companionship, and a place to call home.
Pet Rescue Solutions explained in the caption that the sisters have already experienced more loss than most animals their age. Their mother was struck and killed by a car, and according to the organization, Chloe and Penny “refused to leave her side” after the accident. Eventually, they were brought into a shelter, where another challenge awaited them.
Before being rescued, the kittens were at risk of euthanasia. The organization stepped in and gave them a second chance, hoping they would quickly find permanent homes. Instead, Chloe and Penny remained at the rescue while their brothers and sisters gradually found families of their own. Now, they are the only siblings left still waiting.
The rescue believes misconceptions surrounding black cats have played a major role in the lack of interest. By sharing their story, the organization hopes more people will look past appearances and focus on their affectionate personalities. In the caption, the shelter makes an emotional appeal on the sisters’ behalf. “Please don’t let them spend any more time wondering why no one has chosen them,” it reads.
