What does $10,000 mean to the typical animal rescue or shelter? For last year’s recipient of the DogTime Petties donation, Wags and Walks, it meant a second chance for dozens of Southern California canines in high-volume, low-adoption areas.
From a discarded former breeding dog to pups who needed just a little extra care to get healthy to purebreds of all shapes and sizes, these animals had one thing in common: They faced grim futures at municipal shelters — until they were spotted by Lesley Brog, founder of Wags and Walks.
“I was able to do some amazing things with this grant money,” said Brog, and the photo evidence confirms it. In addition to guaranteeing loving families for dogs who’ve never known comfort and kindness, the donation helped facilitate the organization’s other mission: humane education programs in urban school districts.
