November 18th is Guinness World Records Day. Naturally, if you dig into the archives of the Guinness World Records, you’ll come across some fantastic cat-related feats and achievements.
If you think your kitty at home is extra special, check out some feline world records. Maybe your cat could break a few!
Here’s a look at six of the most impressive cat world records in honor of Guinness World Records Day!
1. Longest Cat In The World
Let’s start with a classic — the record for World’s Longest Cat. Do you think your kitty has a reach when they go for a stretch? Well they may just fall a bit shy of this record.
This title of World’s Longest Cat still living goes to Barivel, a Maine Coon who resides in Italy. His length? A startling three feet and eleven inches long!
But the World’s Longest Cat ever was a feline named Mymains Stewart Gilligan, also known as Stewie. Stewie’s length beats Barivel’s by just a few inches. He was four feet and a half an inch long!
2. Longest Jump By A Cat
Kitties have some mad hops, but do you know who has the maddest hops of them all? It’s Waffle the Warrior Cat, who lives in California.
If your kitty wants to beat this record, they’ll have quite the challenge. Waffle jumped seven feet from a standing position, earning him the record for Longest Jump By A Cat!
3. Loudest Purring Cat In The World
Turn the volume up for this one! Merlin is a rescue residing in the United Kingdom who has been confirmed as having the loudest purr in the world.
Technically, Merlin purrs at a level up to 67.8 decibels, which is a similar volume to an air conditioner.
4. Most Tricks By A Cat In One Minute
The former record holder, Didga, is a cat living in Australia who also happens to be a wizard on a skateboard. But his record of 20 tricks in one minute was shattered in 2020.
The new record holder, Alexis, lives in Austria and set the new record at a whopping 26 tricks performed in a minute. That’s one smart kitty!
5. Longest Fur On A Cat

Before he sadly passed away in 2014, Colonel Meow became an Internet sensation by virtue of his scowling face and a fictitious back story about him being a fearsome dictator. But he also held the world record for the Longest Piece Of Cat Fur, which measured an impressive nine inches.
The Colonel has since been unseated, however, by the less impressively named feline, Sophie Smith, who lives in California. What’s not unimpressive, though, is her fur, which measured in at just a bit over a staggering ten inches (25.68 cm).
And you thought your cat’s grooming routine was tough!
6. World’s Shortest Cat
No one would really say after watching the video above that Lilieput enjoys being measured. But this Munchkin cat holds the current record for World’s Shortest Cat.
When she sits still long enough, Guinness puts her height from the shoulder at about five and a quarter inches.
Hopefully someone tells Lilieput that her height is something we celebrate. Maybe she won’t feel so embarrassed about sitting for measurements next time.
