Woman Adopts Rare Male Calico Cat With Unique XXY Chromosomes

The story of a rare Calico Cat, Josie, has gone viral on TikTok after user @xxycalico shared it on the platform with a video montage of the feline. While the adoption story of Josie is heart-warming, the cat unexpectedly turned out to be a biological male with XXY chromosomes.

Calico Cats usually have beautiful and unique tri-color patterns. They are almost exclusively female cats, with exceptions under rare genetic conditions, as they generally have two X chromosomes. This is what makes Josie’s story quite fascinating.

Rare male Calico Cat adopted by a woman in an unusual Craigslist find

A surprising story about a unique male Calico Cat is receiving a lot of attention on TikTok. In a video shared by @xxycalico, it is revealed that a woman ended up adopting this charming Calico Cat. They first discovered the kitten on Craigslist.

The TikTok video starts with “How I accidentally got a rare cat. ” The owner reveals having seen “this baby on Craigslist,” as the video shows short clips of the feline walking, playing with toys, and moving around around the house. The video describes Josie’s activities as “immediately serving sass and violence.”

Soon, the woman who adopted Josie began “questioning if this [Josie] was a female cat.” When they took the feline to the vet, they informed them that the possibility was very low as “Calico cats have two X chromosomes.” However, it was soon revealed that Josie was a biological male cat with XXY chromosomes. The vet had even suggested changing the name of the cat to Joey, but for the owner, the name Josie “already stuck.” They also shared how the cat developed healthily even if “he’s slightly deranged.” The owner concluded that “he’s the best boy around.”

Per reports, it is rare for a biological male Calico Cats to have two chromosomes, as only 1 in every 3,000 has XXY chromosomes. As such, Josie is indeed a very special cat.
