Here are a few vital tips for introducing a new dog to your incumbent cat:

  • Try and adopt both a young cat and a young dog, as this way they are more likely to become friends.
  • In general, adult cats do better with adult dogs rather than rambunctious puppies.
  • Avoid dogs with high prey drives, such as Jack Russell Terriers, Yorkshire Terriers, and Siberian Huskies.
  • At first, make sure that you move your cat’s food bowls, litter box, and bedding to a separate room so that they can have private space and sanctuary if needed.
